Here is an update on the operation of school bus services, which will be applied to Auckland Transport school bus services. (25/5/2020)
These are the key points:
The Ministry of Transport, New Zealand Transport Agency, and Ministry of Education have reviewed the operation of school bus services during the first week of students returning to schools under Level 2. After consultation with the Ministry of Health it has now been deemed safe to allow standing passengers on all school buses that follow Ministry of Health guidelines.
From Monday 25 May AT school buses will be able to accept more passengers on board each bus now that some passengers can be standing if required. Schools must continue to keep a register of students who use school bus services should contact traveling be required. The row of seats immediately behind the driver will continue to be unavailable for passengers, hand sanitiser will be available from the driver on request, entry and exit to buses will be through the rear door, cash will not be accepted (other than Ritchies West Auckland services), and buses will continue to be cleaned to Ministry of Health guidelines.
The Bus Service We have bus services that operate with Northstar between Albany and Takapuna, and with Party Bus who service West Auckland. Bus tickets are pre-purchased at Northern Busway Stations or contact AT – Auckland Transport. For the students from Greenhithe and Hobsonville areas, contact Party Bus regarding your tickets. Our school is a very busy place before school and after school. Please adhere to the parking rules to ensure the uttermost safety of our students, staff and visitors.
Students must cross at the pedestrian crossing in front of the international house. This crossing is supervised every morning and afternoon. An alternative crossing area is at the top of Sunrise Avenue. There are traffic lights that are supervised by rangitoto staff.
The bus bay at the front of Murrays Bay Intermediate school is available for drop offs every morning, please be quick when dropping of your students. Between 2.30pm and 3.00pm is it to be kept clear for our school busses. Please do not park or collect your student between these times here.
The staff car park is security gated and unavailable to the public for drop offs and collections . Please respect this and find alternative parking on the street.
Students must wear a helmet cycling to school and we strongly encourage helmets for scooter riders. The scooter and bike rack is located outside the library area.
Please remember to sign your student in and out at reception when collecting during school hours.
Buses The school’s catchment area is served by the Northstar and PBC buses which deliver students to the school and collect them from school in the afternoon. Arrangements for travelling by the most appropriate bus are made during the first day at school. The school take responsibility for each student’s behaviour while travelling on a school bus and maintains the right to withdraw the privilege if necessary. Bus routes are available from our website or the school office.
Cars Many students are driven to school. For safety reasons parents must observe the parking restrictions in front of the school. There is no parking allowed on the yellow lined area at any time, even to allow passengers to alight or to pick them up. Stopping in these areas inhibits the movement of bus traffic and causes danger to students. The bus bay is reserved for buses only in the afternoon from 2.30 – 3.20pm. In the morning the eastern end may be used to drop students off at school.
Bicycle Children are permitted to ride to school if they have parent consent to do so and if they are responsible road users. Cyclists must wear safety helmets if they are biking to Murrays Bay Intermediate. Doubling is against the law. Bikes must be wheeled in the school grounds. Where children need to cross the road they should wheel their bicycle across a pedestrian crossing. Scooters are to be folded up on the school grounds.
Walking Good manners on footpaths are required of our students. If it is necessary for children to cross Sunrise Avenue they must use the pedestrian crossing.
