Please follow the instructions and your child’s stationery will be
delivered directly to MBIS. Additional School activity costs will be sent out during the first week of the term which will be approximately $120.00 for the year.

First Day of Term 1
All Year 7 students are to meet in the school hall for class allocation, and parents are welcome to stay with your child until they go to their classroom. School finishes at 3.05pm. Your child will need to bring their device on the first day.

Class Allocation
Students will find out which class they are placed in on the first day of term.
Many hours are spent visiting primary schools and collecting information to place students with the most
appropriate teacher and with a friend. This is a complex process. Information is collected at the time of the
interview as well as from your child's previous school.

Orientation
During the first week of term, students will spend the time in their classrooms and around the school with their teachers familiarising themselves with their new environment. The timetable will officially commence at the start of week two. Day 0 (Week 1), Day 1, 2, 3 … (Week 2).

The Bus Service will start on the first day of school. Details will be explained to the students at 2.30pm that
afternoon about where to line up and which bus to take to go home. Students will bring home a bus timetable and will need to complete a contract online at the following link https://goo.gl/forms/SNtPHaQ9aLW1zHDZ2.
Pre-purchases of bus tickets at Northern Bus Way Stations or contact AT – Auckland Transport. For the students from Greenhithe and Hobsonville areas contact Party Bus regarding your tickets.

Club Murrays
We have an after school care service available to parents for a small fee. For more information or application
form, please contact the leanne.strand@mbi.school.nz or look at our website.

Music Tuition/Beginner Band . Quality group lessons during the school day learning Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet,
Trombone and Saxophone. Excellent value with lessons, concerts and fun trips. No previous music experience
necessary. Instruments can be hired through the school. 100 students have already enrolled for 2018. Enrol your child NOW! We have limited spaces in certain instruments. Contact sarah.holmes@mbi.school.nz for further information.

Extra-Curricular Activities
There are a number of extra-curricular activities available through the school. Please refer to our website
www.mbi.school.nz and newsletter for more details for an idea of costs and commitment. These will be updated next year as details are confirmed.

Outdoor Education
In Term 1 the Year 7 students will participate in a number of Outdoor Education activities off-site (in Year 8 they will go to camp). These will include MERC, Woodhill, Okura Bush Walk and Waterwise at Murrays Bay. The approximate cost for this will be $150.

Tuck-Shop
The tuck-shop will be open on the first day. The 2018 menu is available on the website HERE.

BYOD
As we are a digital school, students are encouraged to bring their own devices and laptops to school. The ICT
agreement needs to be completed online before your child’s first day at MBIS. The following link will take you to the google form https://goo.gl/forms/Vslhsp0TGrZJ9c323. Please supply your child with a set of ear phones for use with the laptop or device. We recommend that you upload an application to track lost devices i.e. Find my device/ Where’s my droid.

Mobile phones are also allowed to be brought to school. Teachers have lockable cabinets for classrooms at
breaks, but students must take responsibility for this equipment during class time. We advise household
insurance to cover possible damage or loss should this occur. Students should not contact home during the school day without prior notification through their classroom teacher or the school office.

On the first day of school students will be given access to their MBIS account, with access to email and Google Drive.

We are often asked what devices to buy and where from. We have a relationship with Noel Leeming which is “cost plus 10%” if the school’s name is mentioned. Always shop around though as there will be many great Christmas and New Year deals.

We look forward to working with you over the next two years to provide a high quality education for your child.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of concern before next year, please do not hesitate to contact: Year 7 Dean –
Shannon Robinson ext.703, Year 8 Dean – Sandra Jacobs ext. 704.

Yours sincerely
Melinda Bennett
Principal
