Band Programmes Enrol your child in our very popular Band Programme that has been running for over 20 years. A great time to try a new instrument. Over 200 students are enrolled in Band Programme each year. Students enjoy small group lessons, band rehearsals, assembly performances, term concerts and fun trips. Every student is placed into one of our Beginner Bands or Concert Bands. No auditions.
Beginner Band Band Practices are during the school day each Wednesday. Students who are learning an instrument for the first time enjoy playing with others in a band - right from the start. Cost: There is no additional cost to be in the Beginner Band
Concert Band Concert Band Practices during school time each Wednesday. Concert Band is for students who have had at least one year of learning an instrument. Cost: There is no additional cost to be in the Concert Band
Orchestra Most instruments are suitable for the Orchestra. Practices: During school time on Thursdays (Block 2 in the hall) Cost: $40 for the year (covers photocopying, most trips, music folder and instrument case tag) Contact conductor: Eunice Park
Rock Band Students who can already play an instrument can audition to be part of a Rock Band at the very beginning of each year. Two inter-school competitions are held in Term 4. Choir Whether you are an experienced musician or an interested one - there is a place in our music programmes for you. Intermediate is a great time to try singing and discover some hidden talents or foster the talent you always knew you had.
Boys and girls are welcomed in all choirs and encouraged to sing through the Intermediate school years, giving a solid grounding for those interested in moving on to the nationally excellent school choirs that exist at our local secondary schools. (Choir Teacher TBA) Notables The “Notables Choir” is for students who are interested and motivated to work at a high choral level as the students sing in at least two parts for many of their songs. A successful audition is required to get into this choir. The “Notables Choir” enters the New Zealand Choral Federation’s “The Kids’ Sing” competition in August and joins with other Primary and Intermediate choirs for a performance in the Town Hall at the long established APPA Festival in November. Practices are held on Tuesdays during Block 3 and there are some weekend workshops during the year. There is a cost of $50.00 to cover transport and other costs.
Festival Choir “Mid-Bays Music and Arts Festival Choir” This choir will be formed for two terms and has as its performance objective, the Mid-Bays Music and Arts Festival which will be held in the Bruce Mason Centre on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday18 June.
Practices for the Mid-Bays Festival Choir will usually be on Monday during Block 3 and these will be for a session. There are other practices with the Director of Music, Megan Flint, who will visit each school choir over the weeks and she will also take the combined schools rehearsals. It is essential that students who commit to this choir are at all Megan Flint’s rehearsals. These are all outlined in the first letter. The cost for this choir is $10.00.
