Murrays Bay Intermediate School is a TravelWise School. Our students are encouraged to use sustainable methods of transport to and from school to help reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion. Sustainable transport includes: Buses, biking, scootering, walking and car pooling. Students on the road are expected to have parent consent and be responsible road users at all times.
We have had several reports from concerned
members of our community regarding students who are not crossing the road safely to or from school. In assemblies we regularly speak about this to reinforce where is suitable to cross the road in our immediate area.
Students during this busy time of the day, MUST use the crossings.
What also is not helping is that occasionally we have parents crossing the road with their children on Sunrise Avenue, not on a crossing, or worse, beckoning their child across the road where they are parked, where there is no crossing. Other children then copy this behaviour.
Last year we had three children hit by cars who crossed at Sunrise Avenue where there is no crossing.
Please do not park on the broken yellow lines to wait for your child as this prevents visibility and accessibility.
If students are dropped off or picked up by car, drivers must observe the
parking restrictions in front of the school.
1. Please do not park on the broken yellow lines to wait for your child as this prevents visibility and accessibility.
Stopping in these areas inhibits the movement of bus traffic and causes danger to pupils.
2. Students being dropped off or picked up on the other side of the street, MUST use the crossings.
