Specialist Subjects-Arts and Technology

Art - Visual and Digital Art, Music, Dance and Drama

Students have many opportunities to engage in their creativity. All Year 7 students participate in all specialist subjects. In Year 8, students are able to choose 3 subjects that they do for the term. Art in Year 8 covers both Visual and Digital Art and students learn through practical hands-on activities.

In Visual Art, students are often using paints, pastels, inks and dye, to create and learn essential art skills. In Digital Art, students are learning through using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create digital artworks using MAC computers.

Music Specialist class takes you on a musical journey through the various genres of music from rock, pop, hip-hop and Maori waiata to an introduction to the western classical musical eras. Explore musical concepts, such as body percussion, beat, rhythm, jingle-writing and the art of Foley sound-effect creation through fun, interactive group activities. The highlight of Music Specialist is the practical participation in the class band, where learners perform a selected piece of music on an instrument of their choice, selected from a range of instruments available in the modern, well-equipped music room.

Dance and drama is taught in our purpose built dance studio. Students learn through participating in collaborative activities that foster confidence and skills performing in small groups in these areas. Students are exposed to both traditional and modern dance techniques.
